Kaafu Atoll consists of Kaashidhoo Island, Gahaafaru Atoll, and Malé Atoll, the latter which includes the North Malé and South Malé Atolls. Kaafu is the most active atoll in terms of tourism, as it is home to the largest number of resorts in the Maldives. The capital city of the Republic of Maldives, Malé City, lies on the southern edge of the North Malé Atoll.
The main international airport, Velana International Airport, is located on Hulhulé Island in the North Malé Atoll. The airport is well connected with other major airports around the globe, and is therefore the main entry point to the islands for visitors.
