ExploreHaa Alif Atoll

Haa Alif Atoll, also referred to as Thiladhunmathi Uthuruburi, is the northernmost of the administrative divisions of the country. As the atoll is the northern tip of the Maldives, it is the closest to neighbouring Sri Lanka and India.

The island of Utheemu, within this atoll, has a historic significance, as it is the birthplace of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, famed for fighting against the Portuguese in 16th century. The Utheemu Ganduvaru, was the childhood home of the Sultan, and is now a well preserved museum.
